Dear Supporters, Volunteers, and Community Members,

We have an important announcement about the Hotels Not Hospitals project. For the past two-plus years, HNH has been able to rent hotel rooms, and later apartments, for unhoused San Franciscans during the coronavirus pandemic. We are grateful for the amazing support of all the volunteers and donors who have contributed to this effort.

Beginning with the New Year in 2023, HNH will no longer be renting apartments. The tenants whose rent has been paid with the help of HNH have provided notice to the landlord, and they will be moving on to other living situations come January 1st.

HNH does not have funds sitting in the bank. Each month that we paid the rent was, typically, covered by the donations from the month prior, usually with extra fundraising efforts needed each month.

This project has accumulated a fair amount of debt. We want all our donors to know that if you choose to or continue to donate to HNH in the future, those donations may be used to pay down the debt incurred in renting the apartments. If you do not want to donate toward that purpose, please discontinue any recurring monthly donations. We will continue to accept donations via Paypal ( http://bit.ly/hnh_monthly ) until our debt is settled.

To that end, we do hope to raise money through a future fundraising event to address the outstanding debt and be in a position to rent hotel rooms or provide other material support to our unhoused neighbors in the future. If you have event planning, fundraising skills, or merely interest in helping us plan and manifest that event, please do get in touch with us. Otherwise, we will be in touch when those plans come together.

Finally, we’d like to invite people to reach out to us if they have questions, or ideas about the project moving forward. We’ve learned a lot, and we’d more than welcome the opportunity to share and discuss.

Thank you again for everyone's support.

Solidarity,

The HNH Team
